Gulf South BMW Owners Club Minutes of March
12,2008 Meeting
President Elmon Randolph opened the meeting at 7:13 p.m. at
the Italian Pie in Jefferson, LA. He welcomed members and guests for
the evening: Rita O'Malley, Paul Napolitano, Zachary Materne,
Maxwell Materne, Blaze Wheat.
TREASURER'S REPORT Debra Randolph reported a club balance of
$820.69.
MINUTES A motion to approve the February meeting minutes was
made by Adam Graff and seconded by Paul Vegas. The minutes were
unanimously approved as written.
OLD BUSINESS
1. CLUB PICNIC - The club picnic will be held on Sunday,
April 13 at Adam & Jackie Graff's camp, 5056 Elbrus, Bay St.
Louis, MS. Directions and a map will be posted on the website
soon. The club will handle most of the food and drinks. Members
are asked to bring a dessert or a side item. The starting time
will be 11:00 a.m.
2. Louisiana Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Committee -
Jannie Markey, as a member of this committee, reported that the
motorcycle license plate with the MAC logo is available. It is a
good cause. She also reported that there would be a bill
introduced during the current legislative session to repeal the
current helmet law. She stated that Governor Jindal is quoted as
saying that he is for freedom of choice. When she gets more info
(bill #, sponsor, when) she will pass the info on to members so
that they can let their representatives know how they feel about
this law. Colonel Champagne has also lined up some bills on driver
safety. She mentioned a few of them. Members were encouraged to
voice their opinions on these issues. One way to do so is to
attend the motorcycle rally on the steps of the state capitol in
Baton Rouge. This event is scheduled for April 27th this year. It
is a major event to kick off "Motorcycle Awareness
Month" in May.
3. MILEAGE CONTEST - Jannie Markey announced and presented
plaques to the 2007 winners. MEN'S CONTEST WOMEN'S CONTEST 1st -
Lyle Grimes 46,621(not present) 1st Julie Dauzat 8,488 (not
present) 2nd - Ken O'Malley 24,508 2nd - Peggy Bienvenu 7,362 3rd
- Alden Bienvenu 15,274 3rd - Jannie Markey 464
4. OFFICERS' AWARDS - Elmon Randolph presented a plaque to
Joe Trippodo for serving as the club's vice-president in 2007.
Plaques will be presented to the 2007 President - Roy Dauzat and
the secretary - Julie Dauzat at a later meeting.
RIDE REPORTS
1. Ride to Thibodaux on February 10th was very nice. The weather was
perfect, great route and the food was easy. 14 bikes and one
car.
2. Daytona Bike Week - Quite a number of members attended and
had a good time. The racing was good. BMW finished 5th and 6th in
the 200. It did rain some and was very windy (50 mph) on Saturday.
There were fewer vendors than in previous years.
DEALER'S REPORT
Hebert's - Will have an Open House on March 29. Times were not
specified. Crawfish will be served Triump/Vespa of NO - Zach Materne
said that they will host a Triumph Fashion Show on Thursday, April
17th at the Republic on S. Peters St. He also said that the local
RAT club will have a breakfast ride ending at the dealership. (Date
was not stated). MSF classes will be held at their store starting in
April. The driving part of the class will be at Lakefront Airport

MOA AMBASSADOR'S REPORT (Lyle Grimes/Ken O'Malley) Ken
O'Malley mentioned that the BMWMOA Rally will be in Gillette, WY
this summer.
DOOR PRIZES and 50/50 Jim Markey won a torks screwdriver set.
Rita O'Malley won a utility knife. Charlie O'Malley won a hand-held
Coleman fan. Travis McCabe won a copy of the movie, On Any Sunday.
Jim Markey won the 50/50 pot of $23.00.
ADJOURNMENT By motion made by Alden Bienvenu and seconded by
Ken O'Malley, the meeting was adjourned at 7:52 p.m.
