Super
Bowl Sunday Annual Ride – Sunday, February 4, 2007
By: Ken O’Malley
For our club Super Bowl Sunday is synonymous with (sometime) great football and good riding and great food! This year was no exception with this event being organized and led by Ken and Rita O’Malley.
Despite a week of cold and generally nasty weather our group assembled at the Shell service station just north of the causeway bridge for the 11:30 departure under clearing skies with mid 40’s temperature. After some time to chat and take the requisite photos, we were headed for Madisonville and points north on the back roads. I only managed one wrong turn requiring a u-turn en route to Amite. It was a pleasant ride with light traffic and pleasant (for winter) scenery along the way.
We arrived at Mike’s Catfish Inn in Amite to find at least four more members there to join the main group for dinner. Our two servers did an excellent job of handling our group of 23 seated in a private room. Catfish was the specialty of the house and as expected it was excellent but many other selections were available on the menu. Ken Gregoire won the Volume Eating contest with an alternate prize going to Julie Dauzat and Veronica Gregoire for the Dessert Eating contest.
A suggestion was made by Ken Gregoire and seconded by this writer to start a “Catfish Challenge Ride” to find some (all) of the very best catfish restaurants in the New Orleans area during 2007. And Wayne “LT” Lyons was quick to volunteer for the next ride to Sphar’s Restaurant in February or March. See you all there!
